A colorful palette

In tune  20"x 24"

acrylic on canvas, year: 2007

I have always had a strange fascination for the lowly music makers and sellers of inexpensive instruments, on urban streets, and sometimes also for the lazy casual listeners. As if to compensate for the poor quality of their 'art', the subaltern music-makers try to put up gallant spectacles with weirdly stitched-up lurid dresses and equally garishly coloured and glistening much abused instruments. The rehearsed seriousness of their physical postures and gestures seen when they play, held for me a fascination and an inspiration in  a strange way. This translated on to my canvas with a bold and colorful palette surpassing the color of skin  and looking beyond what anyone else would see in passing.
